Room 13 Loves Winter!

We are so glad to be back to school after a wonderful winter vacation. We all missed each other so much! We had many stories to share about our holiday celebrations and all the snow! Now it is time to get back to workand learn. Mrs. Glidden is excited about how well the students are learning to sit at their own seats and work independently. We love to READ!!!  We have a new listening center to listen to books on tape.

Each time we finish a worksheet we are earning a penny. We can trade the pennies in for other coins. In March we will have a "Sale" where we can spend our money. All of the sudden the worth of coins is becoming much more interesting! We are all working on number line addition and subtraction.

Please feel free to write, call, or e mail Mrs. Glidden if you have any questions. Enjoy all the snow!

News from Central Office

January 9, 2007

Dear MSAD71 Parents, Staff and Members of the Kennebunk High School Student Body,

On Tuesday afternoon, January 8, high school officials were notified of an alleged threat made toward Kennebunk High School. The police were immediately notified and took action. Through deliberations with them, and due to the fact that the suspect was apprehended and detained, we decided to hold school today. We continue to be in constant communication with our police department to monitor the situation and assure student and staff safety.

We are thankful for the immediate and thoughtful response by our law enforcement agents in assisting us in keeping our school safe. We assure you that the safety of all will remain our top priority.

Below is the press release that our police have provided us.

Sincerely,

Dr. Thomas Farrell
Superintendent of Schools

Learning Together

We have been having so much fun learning together in room 13! All the students are working hard learning to READ and do addition. I am very proud of the quality of work that the room 13 students are doing each day. We are learning to work independently and observe classroom rules. Students are earning stickers for each task completed. They graph the stickers and can earn a prize from our fabulous prize box after filling two rows with stickers.

We were sad to say goodbye to our dear friend, Emily Rochow. The whole school made her last day very special. We will be writing letters to her often. Good luck, Emily!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I am sorry it took me so long to learn to "blog". Thanks so much to Mrs. Blockland for her help. I am so excited to be the new teacher in Room 13! I love every minute with these wonderful students.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Glidden

OFF TO A FABULOUS START!

Smile

Greetings from the Resource Room!

It's great to see the students again!  It's amazing the growth that happens during the summer!  Mrs. Bennett, Mrs. Cashman, Mrs. Ruel, and Ms. Chadburn have all  been working hard on scheduling for our students and we began resource room services on September 10.  We have added two more specialized programs to our resources and are very excited to have started using them!  The math addition is a alternative math program to Everyday Math and is called Saxon Math.  It is a more traditional approach to math and the students are responding VERY positively to it.  The reading addition is a decoding AND comprehension strategy building approach which has come very highly recommended.  Another benefit for the older students using these programs is that is is used at the Middle School as well.   Smile
