Help Needed!

Circus Smirkus has had a very successful run, thanks to all the hard work on the part of so many people. The troop will be pulling out of Rockin Horse Stables on Sunday at around 10 AM. Help is needed with the wrap up and the fields. Anyone who has time, please join the team to help get this job done! We are so grateful to the Thelin's for their use of the property and we want to be sure it is as back together as possible. If you can, come over anytime on Sunday...or give Jeni Kingston, Smirko Extraordinaire, a call, at 967-3006. Thanks!!

New Staff Members

We are all so happy to introduce you to our new...sort of...staff members. We have two new members thus far, and a familiar face in a new and exciting position. One more...Spanish...to go!

First, Carolyn Morse will be returning in a half time Early Literacy Support position. This position will provide support to our youngest struggling readers. Working closely with the primary team and Title One teacher, Lucy Hardy, we hope to ensure that all students have the best possible start in their acquisition of early literacy skills. This is a new program, replacing our Reading Recovery program which targeted only first graders. As you know, Carolyn comes with a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience. We are thrilled to welcome her back to KCS in this position.

Our new Resource Room teacher will be Christine Peskurich, who has been teaching in a Resource Room in York for the past few years. Christine holds an MA from Saint Joseph College in West Hartford, CT ...a very highly regarded program. She comes to us with a broad base of special education knowledge, and excellent references. Having known Christine for a few years, both Susan Mulsow and I were so pleased when she applied for this position.

Kennebunk resident, Jennifer Humphrey has been hired as our grade 3/4 multiage classroom teacher. Jennifer has an MA in education, and several years experience. She has taught in MSAD #6 and was currently teaching a 3/4 multiage class in Scarborough. Jennifer's references were outstanding, including an unsolicited comment from her principal when she did her internship, saying she was one of the strongest interns he had seen and he would have hired her if they had had an opening at the time. High praise!

I know you will all welcome our new KCS staff and make them feel that they have made an extremely positive choice in accepting a position here. Stay tuned for more information as Sara Zito and I continue our search for a Spanish teacher.
