LAST CALL: For one more week, the KCPTA is collecting non-perishable food items for the food pantry. There is a box in the lobby if you are able to help with this project.
Many thanks to the parents of our fifth grade students for organizing a wonderful Fifth Grade Celebration this past Monday! The kids had a terrific time at Camp Ketcha during the day…”the best thing we have ever done” for a fifth grade celebration, according to the teachers, Mr. Bodwell and Mr. Chapman. They retuned here for a wonderful pizza party complete with cake, balloons, tee shirts, baby pictures and a great slide show! It was perfect! As always we hate to lose our fifth grade class…we also hate to lose some wonderful families who no longer have any students at KCS. They are the parents/guardians of: Jen McGuire, Sienna Roberge, Tyler House, Kylie Plunkett, Marissa Staples, DJ Stimpson, Liam Studley, Caroline Thompson, Cynthia Tufts, Joshua Strack, Hayley Fecko, Jack Graydon, Jacob Oransky, and Ryan Whelan. We want to thank you all for your support of our school, and please know that we will miss you! Finally, we want to thank all the fifth grade parents for the constant support for this class over the past six years. We know they will go on to be wonderful additions to MSK!
Congratulations to the third grade classes for a great job on their annual Poetry Night! Very creative in the props department!! Thanks to Mrs. Morse and Mrs. Boyd for their work with the students to make this event possible.
Today we held our annual Arbor Day celebration and were able to have members of the Shade Tree Committee, Rick Griffin, our Shade Tree Warden, and Board of Selectmen Chair, Matt Lanagan, representing Town Manager Larry Meade, join us for the event. Rick Griffin spoke about the importance of preserving our trees. Mrs. Cmaylo’s Kindergarten and Mr. Chapman’s 4/5 multiage class entertained us with poems and drawing about trees. Kennebunkport has once again been named TREE CITY USA! Congratulations and thanks to all the participants!
Today was also our annual KCS Book Give-Away! Sponsored by the Kennebunkport Children’s Literacy Program, each student, K through grade 5, receives a book especially selected for them. This program capitalizes on the varied interests of our students and encourages reading…what could be more important?? Many thanks to the members of the KCLP for this wonderful gift to our students!
Kindergarten classes had special guest readers share a story with them as a kick off to the Book Give-Away celebration. Tacky the Penguin visited Mrs. Mildner’s class and, since he was unable to speak, he flapped and marched along as Mrs. Mildner read the story to the class. Titus Tidewater spent time with Mrs. Cmaylo’s class and read his story to them. Tacky returned in the afternoon and visited Mrs. Cmaylo’s class, and then he strolled about the school greeting all the students. It was a very exciting time!
We want to thank Tom Farrell (Tacky, part 1) Pat Manuel (Titus) and Marty MacGannon (Tacky, part 2) for joining us and for being such good sports! Stay tuned for pictures!!!
Our Friday Morning Meetings are rapidly dwindling…we have two left. The next one, June 13th, will feature the fifth grade slide show, which will be done first, as the fifth graders have to go to MSK shortly after 9:00 for their Step Up. It will also feature the long awaited exciting annual Land Yacht Race! Our final Morning Meeting will be on Tuesday, June 17th, the last day of school. Some fifth grade awards will be presented at that time.

Many thanks to the Kennebunk Saving Bank for helping to sponsor Lynn Plourde’s visit here today! We loved having her and the children enjoy her books so very much.
We had a great experience here yesterday when Erik Deutsch and his jazz band entertained our K through five students. Unfortunately, grades four and four/five were on a field trip and missed this. The band was terrific and the kids were a responsive and appreciative audience. One of the Kindergarten students asked me on the way to lunch if the band “could do it again”. Parents who joined us were really impressed as well. The website for the band is:
hammerandstrings.com and their CD is called “Fingerprint”. Thanks to Barry Saunders for bringing this to us, and to our KCPTA for sponsoring it!!
Congratulations to the Kindergarten classes for a wonderful art show! The art work was wonderful, and Mrs. Cmaylo’s pictures were great…everyone loved the quotes from the students. Many thanks to Kathy Cmaylo, Lorlaie Mildner and Janet Wendle for their work with the children and especially to Charlie Wright for hosting the show at his beautiful gallery in Cape Porpoise.
Congratulations to fourth grader Patrick Sullivan who scored high honors on the CTY exams! Great job, Patrick!
