December 21, 2007

Thanks to all who participated in the American Girl Raffle. Kate Sessler, KCS grade two student, was the lucky winner!! Congratulations, Kate!

The district has purchased a subscription to United Streaming, a wonderful collection of videos designed to extend the curriculum in many areas, especially helpful in science and social studies. Parents and students can access the videos from home using the following login:

Username: cs2008

Password: student

Site: www.unitedstreaming.com

Check it out over vacation!

Please remember that all students being picked up need to be signed out in the gym at the end of the day. No students should be taken from the classrooms for any reason. I know this can be inconvenient for parents, but it is for the safety and protection of our students and we need your understanding and cooperation. Thanks.

School Climate Parent Surveys: It’s not too late! Please return your parent surveys after vacation. The school climate committee will be tallying the results in January. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!

If you have, or know of, a child who will be five by October 15, 2008, please contact the school to receive information regarding our Kindergarten Registration and Screening process…967-2121 or 967-5998.

REMEMBER!! SUBSCRIBE TO THE BLOGS!!! The classrooms, the programs, the KCPTA and Friday’s News are all on the blog. If you subscribe, each time a staff member or KCPTA member posts to the blog, the entry automatically goes to your email. This is the last paper copy of Friday’s News. Send me a note if you do not have access…we will continue to send you a paper copy if you need it.

The office will be closed over the break. However, both Kathy and I can be reached by email if you need something during this time. We will see you on Wednesday, January 2, 2008.

On behalf of all of the staff at Kennebunkport Consolidated School, I want to wish all of our families safe travel, time to spend with family and friends, a peace-filled holiday and a happy, healthy 2008.

American Girl Doll Raffle Winner!

Congratulations to KCS second grader, Kate Sessler, who won the American Girl Doll raffle this morning at Friday Morning Meeting! All items were donated by generous friends, and Kate won a beautiful American Girl doll, ten outfits, a clothesrack, a bunkbed and a sleeping bag! Proceeds from the raffle will be given to one of our families to help alleviate medical expenses. Many thanks to Nancy Naimey, Kathy Hirst and Sue Richardson for organizing the raffle and helping to sell the tickets at the craft fairs and to all who participated through the purchase of tickets. We appreciate your support.  Congratulations, Kate! We hope you love your American Girl Doll!

REMINDER: DECEMBER items for the food drive: BOXED BAKING ITEMS, such as Bisquik, pie crust, cookie/brownie mix muffin mix, etc. Thanks for your support!!!

Thanks to all who participated in the American Girl Raffle. The drawing is Friday at FMM, and we will let you know our winner. A special thank you to those very special people who donated our American Girl, her clothes and accessories: Diane Einseidler, Judy Rose, Marty McGannon and Leslie Pepin.

Stay Tuned!... The KCPTA has a new blog that is getting up and running. You will be able to sign up for it through the MSAD71 website. The next KCPTA meeting will be in the art room on January 4th, 2008 @ 9:00am following FMM.

A reminder about sleds: only roll up sleds can be taken on the bus. The primary recess, Kindergarten through grade 2, use only roll up sleds at recess…the upper grade recess, grades three through five, use the roll up sleds as well, and we are trying the Styrofoam ones this year. We’ll see how it goes. We are very concerned about safety on the hill with the number of students out there at once. If your child has a new wooden sled, please do come over on the weekend when the numbers are fewer.

Celebrate the beginning of the school vacation (almost) with a special event at Graves: Thursday, December 20th, from 3:30 - 4:30, there will be special guests, songs, stories and punch and cookies at our wonderful library! Mark your calendars!

REMEMBER!! SUBSCRIBE TO THE BLOGS!!! Look for a flyer with detailed directions in Red Folders this week. The last paper copy of Friday’s News will be December 21st.

If you have, or know of, a child who will be five by October 15, 2008, please contact the school to receive information regarding our Kindergarten Registration and Screening process…967-2121 or 967-5998.

PLAN AHEAD:

Secret Santa

Secret Santa needs your help!!

Secret Santa still has many, many tags left on our trees.

Please consider pausing in your busy holiday rush to stop by any bank or Town Hall in Kennebunkport, Kennebunk and Arundel and grab a tag.

On this tag you will find a present that a child really wants – a present that a child actually asked for.

Please buy this present and drop it off at any local bank or Town Hall by Wednesday, December 12th.

The happiness of a child depends upon your goodwill.

Happy Holidays!
