REMINDER: DECEMBER items for the food drive: BOXED BAKING ITEMS, such as Bisquik, pie crust, cookie/brownie mix muffin mix, etc. Thanks for your support!!!

If you have not done so already, remember to call to schedule a conference with the classroom teachers.

Get your tickets for the KCS American Girl Raffle! We have been given donations of an American Girl doll, her bunk bed, sleeping bag, clothes rack and ten outfits!! We are planning to have a raffle to help alleviate the medical costs for one of our students. Tickets will be limited to 200, and will sell for $10 each. Tickets went on sale Tuesday, November 13th and are available at the school office. The drawing will take place at FMM on December 14th. Tickets will also be sold at the Prelude Craft Fair…but, don’t wait! Remember, tickets are limited! Our American Girl and all of her accessories are on display in the display case across from the office.

Don’t forget the CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR ! Here at KCS tomorrow from 9-4. On Sunday, December 2, there will be another craft fair here to benefit Project Graduation…9-2…same place! Your support for this event is appreciated! The KCPTA will be running the concession stand during Saturday's Prelude Craft fair. They will be located by the Consolidated School gym door, so, stop by for a bite to eat and support the KCPTA.

Stay Tuned!... The KCPTA has a new blog that is getting up and running. You will be able to sign up for it through the MSAD71 website. The next KCPTA meeting will be in the art room on January 4th, 2008 @ 9:00am following FMM.

RSU 57 Meeting

On Thursday, November 29, the proposed Regional School Unit 57 of Arundel, Kennebunk, and Kennebunkport will present their draft consolidation plan to the public.  The opportunity to review the plan and ask questions of the RSU 57 Regional Planning Committee will begin at 7 PM at theMiddle School of the Kennebunks cafetorium.    All three communities'citizens are encouraged to attend and participate in this important planning process.  The draft RSU plan is to be delivered to the Department of Education by December 1.

REMINDER: This year the KCPTA is coordinating a FOOD-DRIVE-A-MONTH for local food banks. A monthly theme has been chosen based on the suggested needs of the food bank. Please consider sending in one or two items with your child each month. There is a box in the lobby for contributions. We hope to have a strong on-going response as this will benefit people locally.  For November: SIDE DISHES, especially anything that can be mixed with water, boxed mashed potatoes, instant rice, canned potatoes, veggies or fruit, stuffing, baked beans, mac and cheese, etc. Thanks for your support!!!

PICTURE RETAKE DAY: TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 20!!

On November 27th, from 6”30-7:30 there will be a literacy evening here at KCS. Stay tuned for more information!

 

On November 15th, KCS celebrates the second annual MIX IT UP DAY! This is an effort to encourage students to interact with other students and extend some friendships across and between grade levels. The students will be sitting in their birthday months for lunch and then will have organized games at recess in a double month configuration. If parents would like to help with the organized games, please let Mrs. Abrams know…you would be most welcome!

 

Lori Oransky, who serves as Treasurer of the KCPTA, will be leaving Consolidated and moving on to MSK at the end of this year. She is hoping that someone might be willing to work with her this year to train to take over the treasurer position for next year. Please call Lori (967-4864) if this is something that you would be interested in doing. Thanks so much!

 

On Wednesday, November 14th, at 6:30 PM, in the Kennebunk Elementary Library, Sara Zito, Principal of KES, will give a presentation to the parents of K-5 aged students on the social and emotional needs of exceptionally gifted children.  Prior to coming to KES, Sara worked in private schools with a special focus on the education of the gifted. Her presentation will highlight the research of Hollingworth, Robinson, Gross and others, and will provide additional resources on this topic.

 

 WE ARE ALL EARS FOR RECYCLING!!! From Tuesday, November 13th through Friday, November 16th, KCS will be celebrating Maine Recycles Week! We have many fun activities planned: On Tuesday, Shawn Henderson will be introducing re-usable forks and spoons in the cafeteria and all classes will discuss making a hat out of recycled materials for Friday Morning Meeting. On Wednesday, classes will work on their recycling posters. On Thursday, we will all wear GREEN, our Pride of the Port T Shirts, and on Friday we will have a special FMM, wearing our recycled hats, singing our recycling song, and a special guest will be joining us! Some ongoing activities include the library reading books about recycling, grade 1 making SHREK posters for the hall, and Mrs. Wendle doing recycled art with some of the classes. Get involved…make a hat! Come to FMM! And remember to reduce…reuse…recycle!

Message From Graves Library

The Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library will be celebrating National Children's Book Week with an open house on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Many new books will be displayed; several of which will be introduced by guest readers.  Other ongoing activities will include library tours, make-and-take projects, and a book swap.  To participate in the book swap, bring a clean, gently used book you no longer want and swap it for a different one here.

There will be a prize for the person who comes closest to guessing the number of tootsie rolls in the jar and a prize for the person who answers the most questions correctly on our "How Well Do You Know Your Library" quiz.  Refreshments and displays with hand-outs will also be a part of our celebration.  Come by and see what is new in children's literature.  The Graves Library is located at 18 Maine Street, Kennebunkport.  Please call Lynda Bryan at 967-2778 for directions or more information about this event.

Some of you may not know that we have a class of violin players at Kennebunkport Consolidated this year! Thanks to Tom Battles, Resource Room teacher at MSK, who organized this, we have 11 students, K through grade 4, taking weekly violin lessons! They are also joined by 3 adults! This is very exciting and we are all looking forward to hearing about their progress. Many thanks to Tom for all the work he did to bring this about! We are grateful!

 

We had a bit of excitement this past week when a fox started hanging out on the hill during the day. We have been notified that the fox is no longer in the vicinity of the school.

 

The KCS Math Team had their first meet this week, and had a great time! Thanks to Mrs. Glynn and the parents who attended with them! We hope they have a great experience throughout the year.

 

REMEMBER! The KCPTA BINGO NIGHT on Friday, November 16th, at 6:00, here in the gym! Join us!

 

Mrs. D’Iorio is looking for gently used sweatpants…any size…for kids who may need a change of clothing after recess. It’s muddy out there! Also, if we have any parents who are nurses and would like to substitute, please give Donna a call at Consolidated. Thanks!
