October 5, 2007

URGENT: On October 10th at 7:00 PM at the Middle School of the Kennebunks, 70 Thompson Road, the MSAD#71 Facilities Reorganization Task Force will be seeking public input regarding the possible restructuring of the schools within the district. All interested parents and residents are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting. There may be information in the newspaper, but please do share this information with neighbors and friends who might not have direct communication with Kennebunkport Consolidated School. Thank you.

Congratulations to our grade three classes for their wonderful Constitution Showcase at last FMM! Great job! Thanks to Mrs. Morse and Mrs. Boyd for their work with the students! We will look forward to more!

Please don't forget to place your Sally Foster wrapping paper orders. This is a great fundraiser for the school coordinated by the KCPTA. One way this year is to log onto SallyFoster.com.  It is quick and easy to send emails to relatives and friends near and far. The last day is next Friday, October 12th. There’s still time…

A thousand thank yous to those wonderful parents who “spiffed up the school” last Saturday! Although they said that they did not get all that they had hoped accomplished, what they were able to do was terrific! Thanks for taking a beautiful September Saturday to show your support for Kennebunkport Consolidated School. You are what makes this place so special!!

Thanks to the staff members who worked on the Used Book Sale last Saturday as well. We raised close to an additional $500 for Stories for Shiloh. Reading incentive money will be added as it comes in. Stay tuned to next Friday’s News for the grand total! Thank you so very much for your support!

We are happy to welcome nine UNE mentors to Kennebunkport Consolidated School! They will be working in classrooms Kindergarten through grade five, assisting specific students with academic and social skills. This is the fifth year of the UNE/KCS connection, and we have benefited so very much from it! Many thanks to UNE coordinator Melissa Grove for working closely with us to make this happen!

The KCPTA would like to begin a rolling food drive to benefit the local food pantry. Each month there will be an article of food that can be contributed, for example, October might be “canned vegetables”. There will be a box in the lobby for contributions. The PTA will be sending out a flyer about this effort…we hope to have lots of contributions as this will benefit people locally. Stay tuned for more information.

Pam Taylor, our Step Up To Writing consultant, will be visiting here during the week of October 15th. On Tuesday, October 16th she will be offering a parent evening, sponsored by the KCPTA, from 7-8 at Sea Road School. Please mark your calendars and join us…she is a very entertaining and knowledgeable speaker. The program has had great results thus far…our MEA writing scores have improved this year. The writing subtest is given in grade five only, and 82% of our fifth graders met or exceeded the standard in writing! This is a terrific change! Join us!

DON’T FORGET!! We are going paperless!! Please subscribe to the classroom and K’port News blogs, and remember to send me a note if you DO NOT have access to our website at home. Thanks!
