Many thanks to all the staff, parents and citizens who attended the Facilities Reorganization Task Force meeting Wednesday evening! We are especially grateful to the KCPTA and our phone tree parents who helped to publicize this public input session. And a special thank you to Carol Cook who was able to offer child care for those parents wishing to attend the meeting!
Congratulations to our Kindergarten classes for their SECOND Showcase thus far this year. We were treated to a wonderful song about the Constitution! This was a great follow-up to the Grade three Showcase a week ago. Thanks to Mrs. Cmaylo, Mrs. Mildner, Miss Z., and Mrs. Graydon for their work with the K classes.
Announcing another “Spiff Up The School Saturday”! October 20th from 9-12…please join us and let’s hope for great weather!
The GRAND TOTAL of the Stories for Shiloh Fundraiser: $1819.10!! Amazing! Thank you all so much for your support!
Congratulations to Barry Saunders, Instrumental Music Teacher Extraordinaire!! Barry just received the Maine Arts Teachers Fellowship in the amount of $4000.00 from The Maine Alliance for Arts Education! He will be studying with Mike Cain, an amazing jazz musician in New York City for the next year! Just think what he will bring back to our kids! Congratulations, Barry!
Mr. Saunders also brought a wonderful band, called Kneebody, to KCS last week. They were terrific, as were our kids. The whole school really got into the music and asked great questions as well. Thanks to Mr. Saunders and the KCPTA for bringing this great group to our school!
On Sunday, October 14th, at 3:00, there will be a very special event at Graves Library. Author Mitali Perkins and Illustrator Jamie Hogan will read and discuss the wonderful novel Rickshaw Girl. Some of our third through fifth grade students have been reading this great book. Please call 967-2778 for more information, and mark your calendars for this Sunday!
REMINDER!! Please remember to send a note to the classroom teachers if your child is going to rec, unless this is an every day plan. Thank you.
The KCPTA would like to begin a rolling food drive to benefit the local food pantry. Each month there will be an article of food that can be contributed, for example, October might be “canned vegetables”. There will be a box in the lobby for contributions. The PTA will be sending out a flyer about this effort…we hope to have lots of contributions as this will benefit people locally. Stay tuned for more information.
REMINDER! Pam Taylor, our Step Up To Writing consultant, will be visiting here during the week of October 15th. On Tuesday, October 16th she will be offering a parent evening, sponsored by the KCPTA, from 7-8 at Sea Road School. Please mark your calendars and join us…she is a very entertaining and knowledgeable speaker. The program has had great results thus far…our MEA writing scores have improved this year. The writing subtest is given in grade five only, and 82% of our fifth graders met or exceeded the standard in writing! This is a terrific change! Join us!
DON’T FORGET!! We are going paperless!! Please subscribe to the classroom and K’port News blogs, and remember to send me a note if you DO NOT have access to our website at home. Thanks!
