Change in Date

The paper copy of October 26th Friday's News had an incorrect date for the grade 2 and Multi 1/2 River Trip. The correct date is Monday, November 5th. Sorry!!

October 26, 2007

This year the KCPTA is coordinating a FOOD-DRIVE-A-MONTH for local food banks. A monthly theme has been chosen based on the suggested needs of the food bank. Please consider sending in one or two items with your child each month. There is a box in the lobby for contributions. We hope to have a strong on-going response as this will benefit people locally.

For October: CANNED MEATS: corned beef hash, canned chicken or ham, beef stew, tuna, etc.

For November: SIDE DISHES: boxed mashed potatoes, instant rice, canned potatoes, veggies or fruit, stuffing, baked beans, mac and cheese, etc.

Thanks for your support!!!

This was National Bus Drivers Week, and Kennebunkport Consolidated School wants to take a moment to recognize the great work of our KCS drivers! We are truly fortunate to have long term wonderful people starting and ending our students’ days and keeping them safe on the way to school and on the way home.

Ellen and Pat W. drive our special education buses while Pat B., Jonathan, Allen, Bob and Joanne drive the regular bus runs. Thanks to each of them for all that they do every day for our kids!

Congratulations to our Multiage 1/2 and grade 2 classes for a really nice Showcase last Friday. They performed a lovely song about the continents, and they did a great job!

Remember that special holiday that’s coming up! Please remember to caution your kids about Halloween safety if they do go “trick or treating”. On Saturday, October 27th from 1:00-3:00, there will be a Halloween Party geared for children under age eight, although anyone is welcome, and from 6:00-8:00 there will be a Halloween Dance! What a great way to celebrate!

Congratulations to Mr. Bodwell’s fifth grade class for their respectful and responsible behavior while visiting Olde York this past week. Mr. Bodwell was told that typically they have over 3000 students per year, and our fifth grade was among the very best! We are proud of you for representing KCS so well!

Thanks to everyone who helped make Emily’s last day at Kennebunkport Consolidated School so special! From the special book, to the t-shirt, to the birthday song, to the many parties and gifts from our Life Skills class, I am sure Em will never forget us! Thanks so much!

Kennebunkport Consolidated School is participating in the town wide program “Cards for Carl” in which as many people as possible are planning to honor Carl Bartlett on his 90th birthday with a card. We will be collecting them over the next couple of weeks. If you would like to add your cards to ours, please send them in. We are trying to have all the cards ready by November 2.

Message from Food Services

Dear Parents:
M.S.A.D. #71’s Food Service Department is excited to be among one of the first school districts in the State to provide parents a convenient, easy and secure online prepayment service to deposit money into your child’s school meal account at any time.  This service also provides parents the ability to view your child’s account balance through a web site called MyNutrikids.com.  By having money in each child’s account prior to entering the cafeteria, we find the lunch lines move along much faster so your child has more time to eat and be with friends.
Also, parents will have the ability to print out a copy of their child’s eating history report.  This history report will show you all dates and times that your child has purchased a breakfast and or lunch within the past thirty days. You do not have to make online payments to view your child’s eating history report, but you do need to register at the site.
These new services will be available October 1, 2007.
To access these services:
  1. Simply go to the district web site at www.msad71.net.
  2. Click on the Food Services link.
  3. Click on the MyNutrikids.com link.  From this site you will create your account and add money to your child’s school meal account.  All you need is your child’s name, student ID number and school ZIP code.  The instructions listed on the back of this page will guide you through the easy online account set up process.
Things to know:
Ø       If you have more than one child in the District you can handle all online prepayments from the same online account.
Ø       Payments may be made through an existing PayPal account or with a major credit or debit card only.  The minimum prepayment amount is $10.00 per prepay transaction (total sum of prepayments for all of your listed children in a single transaction).
Ø       In order to use the online prepayment service, a small convenience fee for each transaction will be assessed to cover the bank fees.  The convenience fee is $1.75 per deposit transaction. Parents placing money into multiple meal accounts will only be assessed the $1.75 once per deposit transaction.  M.S.A.D. #71 will not profit from the use of this site.  To offset the cost of this convenience fee, the District Food Service Department will provide one FREE meal for your son or daughter for every $50 you put on their account.  For example, a purchase of $50 dollars will be charged a convenience fee of $1.75, but in return you will receive one free meal valued at $2.00 or $2.25 depending on the grade your child is in.
In the near future, we will also have the ability to offer an interactive menu planning that allows parents and children to view upcoming school meal menu choices, make menu selections and view nutritional facts about their choices.  Parents and children will also have the opportunity to access a number of nutrition education sites so that you can learn together about smart meal selections and choices, exercise and overall health and wellness.
We are very excited to offer these new services and are confident this new system will benefit you, your child and our District.  However, if you choose not to take advantage of the online prepayment service you may continue to make advance payments via check or cash. Please write your child’s full name on the check, complete a prepayment form and send in a sealed envelope.
If you have any questions about these services, please feel free to contact my office at 985-1110 ext 6
Best Regards,
Ellen Demmons
Food Services Director

Congratulations to both Kindergarten classes who kicked off our FMM Showcases with a great alphabet chant! It’s clear that they have learned a lot already and they seemed perfectly comfortable in the center of our circle! Thanks to Mrs. Mildner, Mrs. Cmaylo, Mrs. Graydon and Miss Z. for their wonderful work with the Kindergarten!

It is wrapping paper time again!! The KCPTA is coordinating the Sally Foster fundraiser again this year. Consolidated school will earn 50% of all sales. This year, we are strongly encouraging the Consolidated community to sell & purchase on-line at SallyFoster.com. Our school account number is 0506975.  It is so easy to simply send emails out to friends near and far through the website AND then items will be shipped directly to the buyer. The fundraiser starts on September 24th and ends on Friday October 12th.

Thank you so very much for your support of the Stories for Shiloh Used Book Sale! It was a huge success! We had a tremendous response to our call for used books…so much so that we will have a table tomorrow at the Designing Women Craft Fair here at Consolidated to try to sell a few more…so, please come! We raised $536 last Friday, and our books were selling for 50 cents or $1.00! I am sure we had many wonderful donations, and we are so grateful for the support for Shiloh. Thank you for being part of this effort, and stay tuned for the results of the reading incentive! Remember…all money for the reading incentive is due October 4th!

TODAY AND TOMORROW: The third annual Back to School BBQ will be held tonight September 28th at 6:00 if weather permits. Tomorrow, September 29th, will be the Spiff up the School Workday beginning at 9:00. Come for an hour or stay all day! Meet the group by the parks and rec office. We hope to see lots of families at both events.

Remember to stop in to the Designing Women Craft Show tomorrow to benefit our wonderful Graves Library. It is a terrific craft show and a great opportunity to pick up some unique things for holiday gifts. The show will be in the gym from 9:00 until 4:00, and donations are $2.00 per person. Support your local library!!

The KCPTA would like to begin a rolling food drive to benefit the local food pantry. Each month there will be an article of food that can be contributed, for example, October might be “canned vegetables”. There will be a box in the lobby for contributions. The PTA will be sending out a flyer about this effort…we hope to have lots of contributions as this will benefit people locally. Stay tuned for more information.
