December has a lot of holidays!

ChildrenPlay.gifWe have been learning about different holidays that are celebrated in December in the United States and in other parts of the world.  We learned about Los Posadas and Hanukkah this week and will learn more next week!  People around the world do celebrate in so many different ways!

Please pack an additional snack for your child on Thursday.  We will have a second snack time at the end of the day.  I have some fun activities for everyone to do and a small goodie bag for each child.  We will celebrate the end of 2006 with a bang!

At this time of year, I want to write and thank you for all the support that you give the classroom.   I feel very lucky to have a job I love and to be able to work with your wonderful children each and every day!  I hope you all have a wonderful holiday break with your lovely children!  Blessings, Nancy

We had an impromptu party!

party.jpgWe had an unexpected party in the classroom yesterday.  At Consolidated, teachers are involved in "kringling" at the holiday season.  This involves having a secret name that we send clues to the person over the course of five days with a small gift.  On the sixth day, we guess who the kringler's identity.  My kringle gave me a bag which had snowman soup (hot chocolate with marshmellows and candy canes), a bag of cookies and popcorn for each child.  It also included a video of Arthur which included many December holidays that we are talking about in class.  So, we stopped work for the day and had an impromputu party all thanks to my very special kringle, Eileen Blokland.  Thank you, Eileen!

We are published authors!

tn_books.gif

The class was very excited today to see the the book that we made on our field trip about the Kennebunk River.  They gave a book to Mrs. Pence and Mrs. Vennell.  Mrs.  Vennell thought it was very ironic that the dedication said that we dedicated this book to the library because they did not have any books on the Kennebunk River and our gift to the library made the dedication false!  There is a little bit of irony in that!  Mrs. Pence was amazed at the quality work in this book and said that this is the second time she has noticed the outstanding work that this class is doing.  It is very impressive!

Anyway, I would appreciate your feedback on this venture.  I was planning to do it again at the end of the year when we study tidal pools.  Let me know if that sounds like a good plan or you would like to do it more or not again.  Please email me at nnaimey@msad71.net for feedback.  Thank you.

Report Cards

I will be out of school on Thursday, December 7th.  Report cards will be coming home on that day. If you have any questions after receiving your report card, please do not hesitate to call me.  Thank you.

We are working toward our goals!

It was great to meet all of you at conferences and to set goals for your child together.  I have a few more to do this week but I am proud to have had 100% participation.  Please know that I am happy to work together with you for the best interest of your child.

We are working towards a pizza party in December!  Students are working towards the goals we set up at conferences.  After they work hard on these goals for one month, we will have a pizza party in the classroom.   The pizzas are generously being donated by an anonymous parent for everyone in the class to enjoy.  Please feel free to remind your child of the goals we set and encourage them to work hard on this goal!  A very special thank you to this parent for encouraging all children in these individual goals!
