Grade Three Recorder Information

As part of your child’s third grade general music education, he/she will be using a soprano recorder, a wind instrument similar to a flute or penny whistle.  Some children have recorders at school already and some have them at home.  The recorders are on order and we will be using them as soon as they arrive.  If you don't own one, we will have them at school for you to purchase. The recorders are $3.75 and you may send cash or a check made out to Kennebunkport Consolidated School. If this is a hardship for your family, please let us know.

In third grade, the children will use their recorders in class and will be expected to take them home to practice each week. I promise they will be able to make musical sounds before the instruments go home! Your child’s name should be on the outside of the recorder.  There will be no loaner instruments available because of the obvious health issues.  If you wish, you may purchase two recorders: one for home and one for school.

We will be using a method book called, Do It! Play Recorder by James O. Froseth.  If you would like your child to have a book to practice at home, you can purchase one at http://www.giamusic.com/search_details.cfm?title_id=5617 or at most any online bookstore.
