Consolidated School will be celebrating Mix It Up Day on Tuesday, November 13.
Mix It Up at Lunch Day is a national event that supports young people who want to improve the social climate of their schools. Students and staff will sit down together according to their birthday month. Each table will have questions to get conversations started among students who may not know each other very well and who don't usually sit together.
Parent volunteers are needed on the playground after lunch to help run cooperative games. We will be supplying instructions and any equipment needed for the games.
The School Climate Committee decided to participate this year as part of our school-wide effort to create a more inclusive environment for our students. Studies have shown that the cafeteria and the playground are the school settings where social boundaries are most clearly drawn. By "mixing it up" at lunch and recess, students can become more comfortable interacting with different groups of people.
