magnet school and the academic programming.

Janet Cate, Director of Kennebunk Free Library will present a power point about MARVEL! Maine’s Virtual

Library, a fabulous internet tool for research & pleasure; followed by information about the MSSM & Creative

Festival of Youth summer camps.

Kennebunk Elementary SchoolThird Grade - After the winter break, preparation for the GLE’s began in earnest for all third grade classes.  Reading and Math released items were organized and put together by the GATES teacher and given to the 3rd grade teachers to implement in their classrooms during times that worked in each of their schedules.  In addition, a web-based math program called ALEKS is being piloted for the next five months with about twelve third grade students who have shown strength in math through testing, teacher recommendations for classroom work, participation, and motivation. Second Grade – In January all second grade classrooms at KES worked on the WordMasters Program with the GATES teacher, learning new vocabulary words, dictionary skills, antonyms and synonyms, prefixes and suffixes, and different kinds of analogies.  Students will continue studying and applying the WordMasters words. 

First Grade -  The first grade rotation will begin the first week of February and will continue through until the second week in March. In first grade, all classes will continue the Step Up to Writing Program began earlier.  Students will be putting together sentences to form meaningful paragraphs.  Kindergarten - Kindergarten classes are monitored and consulted with on an as needs basis. 

 

Kennebunkport Consolidated SchoolMath Team - On January 23rd the KCS Math Team went to the second math meet at the Portland Expo.  The team did well.  There were over sixty teams competing from all over Southern Maine.  Students are excited about the competitions and are continuing to practice once or twice each week in preparation for the next meet on Thursday, March 20thGATES LITERATURE CLASS - The GATES Literature class meets on Mondays each week when school is in session.  For the next three weeks we will be reading, discussing and writing about The Foundling and Other Tales of Prydain.  Fifth GRADE – is working on the new WordMasters Word List which are copied below.  While the FOURTH GRADE classes at KCS are busy working on the MEA released reading and math items for the MEA tests in March.  THIRD GRADE  students are also working on preparation for the GLE’s. SECOND GRADE  students worked on analogies and the Step Up to Writing program.  FIRST GRADE students will continue to work on the Step Up to Writing Program too.  Kindergarten classes are monitored and consulted with on a needs basis.
