Kennebunk Elementary School – Third Grade - After the winter break, preparation for the GLE’s began in earnest for all third grade classes. Reading and Math released items were organized and put together by the GATES teacher and given to the 3rd grade teachers to implement in their classrooms during times that worked in each of their schedules. In addition, a web-based math program called ALEKS is being piloted for the next five months with about twelve third grade students who have shown strength in math through testing, teacher recommendations for classroom work, participation, and motivation. Second Grade – In January all second grade classrooms at KES worked on the WordMasters Program with the GATES teacher, learning new vocabulary words, dictionary skills, antonyms and synonyms, prefixes and suffixes, and different kinds of analogies. Students will continue studying and applying the WordMasters words.
