Kennebunk Elementary School – All third grade classes have been working on learning analogies.  In October, as further enrichment, third grade classes were introduced to the WordMasters Program. WM will continue all year long with the first competition in December for the first twenty-five words. Students are being encouraged to find WM words in their daily lives, newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, signs, books, etc.  Bring in the word and add it to our “I Spied A WordMasters Word,” outside the GATES office. By the end of October all second grade classrooms were at KES had received services by the GATES teacher.  These were either in the way of lessons on visual analogies, reading assessment testing, or pre-testing for EDM units.  The first grade rotation began the week of November 5th and will continue through until the holiday break in December. In first grade, all classes are being introduced to the Step Up to Writing Program. Kindergarten classes are monitored and consulted with on a weekly basis.

Kennebunkport Consolidated School – At the end of October the KCS Math Team went to the first meet in Portland.  The team did quite well placing 14th out of 29 fifth grade teams from all over Southern Maine.  Students were exciting about the competition and are continuing to practice once or twice each week in preparation for the next meet on Tuesday, January 22nd.  The GATES Literature class meets weekly and students have completed reading short stories and are now ready to work on an independent reading book of their own choice.  They will be asked to present a project that represents their books in early December.  Fifth and fourth grade students at KCS are all working on the WM challenge.  They too are trying to find words for our WM Bulletin Board.  The words for grades three, four and five are listed below, so that students can be on the look out for their citing.  Third grades at KCS are busy working on finding synonyms and antonyms for their WM words.  Second grade students worked on analogies in September and October and now first grade students will begin the work on the Step Up to Writing Program too.  Kindergarten classes are monitored and consulted with on a weekly basis.
