Late April News

The Slooow Blogger is in action again!  Today we took the NWEA Math test in the computer lab.  We'll do the Reading one on Thursday.  I heard no complaints regarding this and everyone was in good spirits.  These are untimed tests and each child has different problems.  Depending how they answer, the problems get easier or harder as they go on.

On May 16th, we are going on a field trip to the Portland Observatory and the Museum of Fine Arts.  We will have a picnic lunch on the promenade.  We go rain or shine, so dress accordingly.

Mrs. Blockland made a video of the animal projects we did awhile ago.  Check it out by clicking on the site below.

February Notes

Our first delayed start seemed to go well from this end.  Any Comments?

Information regarding the animal reports will be coming home tomorrow.  Please look for this and discuss it with your student.  Most of them are very ready and excited to get started on this project.  Note that we will be writing the reports in class so the note taking on the 'webs' will be most important.

Also, February is African American History month.  The children will be reading about notable African Americans as well as stories by and about African Americans.  An oral report will be given on a book of the child's choice in late February.

We will be having a Valentine Party on Feb. 14th in the afternoon.  A Valentine list will go home tomorrow too.  We will be making our Valentine boxes in school.  If you have an empty kleenex box with a top opening, we could use a few more.

We also need more kleenex  for the room.  There have been a lot of runny noses this year and kleenex use is way up!

Dear MSAD71 Parents, Staff and Members of the Kennebunk High School Student Body,

On Tuesday afternoon, January 8, high school officials were notified of an alleged threat made toward Kennebunk High School. The police were immediately notified and took action. Through deliberations with them, and due to the fact that the suspect was apprehended and detained, we decided to hold school today. We continue to be in constant communication with our police department to monitor the situation and assure student and staff safety.

We are thankful for the immediate and thoughtful response by our law enforcement agents in assisting us in keeping our school safe. We assure you that the safety of all will remain our top priority.

Below is the press release that our police have provided us.

Sincerely,

Dr. Thomas Farrell

Superintendent of Schools

Happy New Year

In spite of the cold weather, we are all glad to be back at school!  We are getting right to work memorizing the times tables.  I'm very pleased that five people already know the 0 through 5 tables.  If you haven't been working on these tables at home, now is the time to start.  Math is so much faster and easier when you don't have to stop to figure these out.  We have learned all the small cursive letters and several of the capital letters.  Students are encouraged to write their spelling words in cursive. Also, ask your student about nouns, verbs, subjects and predicates.  On Tuesday, Pam Taylor a writing consultant for the District will be doing a lesson in our room.
