In response to some questions about homework, here's a reminder.

Math Homework comes home MOST nights. Your child may do the homework independently OR with your help. The important thing is that he/she makes you aware of what he is learning in math at school. We request that you CHECK your child's work and have him CORRECT ERRORS and that you INITIAL the homework indicating that you have checked it. (Answers for all homework sheets are in the pink Parent Letter you receive at the beginning of every unit.)We want to avoid having the child do it himself and not show it to you to be checked. That defeats the purpose of communicating with you! We go over the homework together the following day in school,so it's important that your child returns the paper promptly.Your child receives a sticker if the paper is returned the following day AND contains your initials. Thank you for your help with this.

More about homework, next time...

We call this our Trip Around the World.

We began our trip yesterday with a visit from three college students from Turkey, who have been working at the Clam Shack for the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Kingston brought them in to teach us about Turkey. Ask your child to tell you some things the young men told us about their country. It was fun for all of us to have them visit. We even tried to learn to count to 10 in Turkish!

I welcome any of you who would like to come and teach us about another country or culture. Please let me know if you or a relative or friend would be willing to help us with our trip around the world.
