Welcome back from vacation! We welcome Michael Wingfeild to our school to work with our students around music theory and African percussion. In connection with this wonderful experience, some of the children have been engaged in African arts in the artroom. The oldest children will be working in metal to create and anilaml relief. The fourth grade children are studying printmaking through Adinkra cloth from the West coast of Africa. They are making their own symbols and printing stamps. The second graders made beautiful weavings after learning about kente cloth. The third grade students are studying Mexico so are making their own molas in art and the first grade children are finishing up their papermache birds which have a lot of character! Kindergarten children are working with painting techniques and resist methods.
The kindergarten children will have their annual art show at the Wright Gallery in May 29th- look for a special invitation coming home soon!
The week of the 12th and the 19th the fourth and fifth grade chidlren will be visiting Heartwood College of Art to obverse and then create with the aid of some professional artists! This is a fun and exciting trip and reinforces all the elements of design that we have been learning about in class!
