Welcome back from vacation! Please come see some of the new art work on display in the halls. The 4/5 and 5 students finished their Memory Collages based on their studies of Romare Bearden's work and the 2 and 1/2 students are showing off their Baby Cradles that we created after investigating Gustav Klimt's use of pattern and texture. Coming up this month, we will focus on design and architecture in the art room! The older students will be working on designing a word that reflects its meaning- not as easy as you'd think! The smaller children will study local architecture and create their own fantasy buildings and the kindergarten children will eventually construct wooden structures based on their knowledge of design. Third and Fourth graders are learning about slab construction and the kiln is ready to be fired! SO we'll be able to fire all the great work! If anyone has old newspapers or old towels we could sure use them in the artroom for table covers and working with clay and also for clean up! Thank you for all your support!
Febraury is already here and we only have a few art classes this month due to vacation! We have been focusing on color, landscapes and space this term and please come see the children's art work in the halls! The 4/5 and fifith grade students are displaying their finished paper mache dragons by the office- very creative and imaginative! Third grade landscapes are also hanging up and add a real gallery feel to our halls! Plenty more to come see too! In February, the children will be focusing on texture and pattern, both exciting elements of design. The first graders already finished their texture cats that are hanging in the art room and the 1/2 and second grade students are working on a texture collage that is inspired by Gustav Klimt's Baby Cradle painting. Kindergarten children have finished their warm and cool color study and are now working on Valentine's Day texture collages and third grade students are also building collages that include both illusionary texture as well as real texture! Pleae feel free to drop in and see the children at work!
All our young artisits here at Consolidated would like to thank the KCPTA for their generosity in purchasing a new kiln for the art room. The maintenance crew built a wonderful closet in the art room to house the new kiln and are finishing up the final details so we will be ready to roll after vacation! The fourth grade students have already started a container project that will be our first firing! Thank you from the bottom of my heart- this will tremendously benefit the art program here at Consolidated!
